Retrospective "20 Years of Regards de Provence" in Marseille

From June 9, 2018 to February 17, 2019

On the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the Foundation and Association Regards de Provence, the Musée Regards de Provence devotes its picture rails to emblematic works from the eponymous collection corresponding to 20 flagship exhibitions that marked their 20th anniversary.

More than 60 thematic or solo group exhibitions have been presented in Marseille in three heritage sites: Château Borély (1998 to 2005), Palais des Arts (2005 to 2012) and Musée Regards de Provence since 2013 This retrospective offers a tour of exhibition extracts, which recalls some symbolic artistic events. So many artists, periods, subjects that have marked the two decades of Regards de Provence, such as Rural Provence - The Orient of the Mediterranean - Women in Provence - Jean Cocteau and the Mediterranean - One hundred views of Marseille - The hidden treasures of the Sacro monte di Orta...

Provence has a rich roman heritage, dating back from the 1st century BC. Provence was the first territory beyond the Alps conquered by the Romans (70 BC). Provence then served as a base to conquer Gaul in 58-51 BC. This base was referred to “Provincia Romana”, and this is where the word “Provence” originates.
