A festival of costumes, canals and parks taken by the crowd: it's almost like Venice, minus the gondolas! Every year, the weekend after Mardi Gras, the city of Annecy recreates the magic of the Venetian carnival.

For three days, several hundred masks from all over Europe parade and pose in the streets of the old town, on the shores of the lake, on the Easter lawn, in the gardens of Europe or along the canals, in a silent atmosphere as required by the rule. The costumes compete in colour and exuberance, decoration and creativity. Many of them are inspired by the characters of the Commedia dell'arte, such as the harlequin with his black mask and his diamond dress. Others opt for the classic decorated white mask with a feathered hat and a pearl embroidered outfit.
